When it comes to packing properly, you will find that there is a lot that you can do to safeguard the contents of your boxes, and to protect your furniture form damage when the move is underway. The issue with a removal is that there will be a huge amount to get moved without there being a huge amount of time in which to move it, and this is a big factor in the speed at which the removal services have to work. You need to work with a certain amount of haste on any removal, as there is so much to do, and this can lead to issues surrounding the safety of things as they are moved. Whilst no one should be throwing boxes about, there will be a certain amount of rattling as boxes are loaded in to the van and stacked up, which means that you need to be packing in a way that protects every item as it is moved.
1. Line your boxes for delicate items with bubble wrap. Your removal van may well vibrate quite a lot when it is driving or in neutral, and these vibrations can cause items in the boxes to reshuffle, knocking in to each other and generally getting battered a bit. You will find that a little bubble wrap lining the boxes with delicate glass and china in will improve your chances of everything remaining intact!
2. Using brown paper or packing paper will protect less delicate items, whilst saving the use of bubble wrap. Bubble wrap will take up a lot of room in your removals boxes, and can be pretty expensive, not to mention bad for the environment. You will find that the result of paper is to allow things to sit together without moving around too much, and whilst it will not give the same protection as bubble wrap, most of the time it is more than enough for the job.
3. When you are done with packing up a box, write out a brief inventory on the outside. Include the room that it is destined for, and an overview of the contents, so that you can find things easily when you arrive at the new place. Having the contents spelled out on the front may also ensure that the removal services treat the boxes with a little more respect than the unmarked box with a ;fragile’ sticker on it, as the reality of the situation will be much more present in their minds. It will also reduce the amount of moving about that you need to do at the new place.
4. You will find that there are plenty of different things that you can do to replant furniture for a removal. Small things like caster wheels, sofa feet, detailed extremities on decorative consoles and the rest will all need to be protected, so that they are not snapped off when being moved about and loaded in to the van. It is pretty essential that you are able to highlight these things to the movers so that they are wary of where the dangers are, as obliviousness will no doubt lead to neglect.
5. When things are being loaded in to the van itself, you can put blankets and card to prevent things scratching each other. Loading the removal van will be about wedging things together to prevent anything sliding about in the back, and this will mean that your furniture needs to come in to contact with both other items and the walls of the van. Protect these things and they should be absolutely fine!
