Having a Greener House Moving Day Is Easier Than You Think

There are a number of ways you can make your moving day a greener day and the great thing is you don't have to do much to make this happen. It can begin as soon as you know you're moving for definite. This involves you making a quick tour around the house with a recyclable notepad and marking down those items you can see straight away you won't be taking with you to your new property. It may be things like books or CDs you're getting rid of, or large items such as pieces of furniture. The idea is that immediately you cut down on what you're taking with you to your new address and this means you may have need for a smaller removal truck and that there may be less waste later on.

Of course, you can also let your friends know that you're discarding certain items which they themselves may be interested in, so this too, cuts down on waste.

Then there are charity shops and selling your items online which are options for you. Taking the least amount of items you need to take is immediately giving yourself a greener house move. Once you do know what you're taking and what you are not taking, you will then know, in turn, how much packing and packaging materials you will need. The sooner you know this, the better it is because it gives you more time to get these items before your moving day.

One action you can take immediately is to phone round your friends and family and let them know you are looking for cardboard boxes and packaging materials. This isn't just about cardboard boxes themselves but if, for instance, they have something delivered to the home which is wrapped in bubble wrap, you can use these items or things like scrounged up paper or polystyrene beads or whatever it may be. With a little luck, you will find that these packaging items soon build up and by the time your moving day comes along you have more than enough for your house move.

By also going around certain large stores in your area, you can find out about places which no longer need cardboard boxes. In addition, your place of work can be a great source of packing and packaging materials. So, in effect, you are doing your bit in terms of recycling which in turn means you're helping the environment and of course, giving yourself a greener home move.

The actual journey to take between your present property and your new property is also an opportunity to make sure it's done in the greenest way possible. In essence, this comes down to being organised and making an extra effort so that everyone who has to move can do so in one vehicle rather than taking more than one vehicle. It can also be environmentally friendly to load as much as you can, as safely as you can, inside a car which in turn means you may need a smaller removal truck and, in turn, it means you leave less of a carbon footprint.

In general, from the moment you know you're moving, be aware of what you can do to make sure you're being environmentally friendly.

With every action you take in the build up to your house moving day, ask yourself, is there a better way I can do this? Or, more accurately, is there a way I can do this which is better for the environment? Simply by asking that question, you will find answers and in turn when the whole house move is over, you will realise you indeed succeeded in having a greener house moving day.
